Welcome to mitchmen gateway

Welcome to mitchmen.com, home of Mitchell's Gay Art.

This is my permanent gateway site.
I usually post here once a month, art and photos in praise of male beauty, strictly vanilla.
There's a link in the sidebar to a small public gallery of vanilla drawings by me (gallery last updated Feb 2019).
If you have problems with the link please read this notice.

You can find my more intense and frank work via my regular 'mitchmen' blog
(where I show my own pictures mixed with articles on other gay artists and images that excite me).

There's a 'Gallery Hub ' tab at that blog which has onward links to:-
- All the official mitchmen galleries,
- The mitchmen mailing list (for the latest pictures and stories)
- The permanent mitchmen archive at Adonis Male.

I welcome comments from visitors but please avoid adult references,
I can't approve remarks which are not consistent with the vanilla format of this site
and unfortunately I can't edit your contributions!

Thank you for your interest and support.

AI Experimentation

cyberlad - anthropoplasti - 449

This remarkable image is one of many fantasies by cyberlad that explores the possibilities of the distinctive, traditional genre of art used for medical, anatomical studies. It's not for everyone who has an interest in the male body, but has an invasive quality that is hard to ignore.

In this example, the artist has clad the subject in jeans which immediately suggests the condition of his body is real, not an abstract visualisation for educational purposes. He's doubled down on the scientific element by enclosing him in a glass chamber. A chamber which is also occupied by an ivy-like plant, it is vigorously entwining itself around his body.

Curiously disturbing.

Man at Work

Another muscular male back is the focal point of this image of a workman hauling on a strap.

Manual labour is not highly valued in economic terms but gay men can appreciate it as a priceless expression of masculinity, one that most of us can only realise through the artificial process of gym exercise.

Shame about the baggy jeans though.

It's by the artist Steve Huston who makes something of a speciality of images like this,
involving boxers and workmen.

Machine Fodder

Men at work, stripped to the waist in industrial settings make for great imagery.

Machines and muscles are also a fascinating combination.

Human strength pitted against mindless solidity.

This image by Mentaer treats us to a model with a superb muscular back, but adds an unexpected fantastical narrative as he appears to be about to be swallowed up by the maw of this strange monster

Stairway To Heaven

Maverick Willett by Blake Brooks

I have a weakness for snug fitting shorts on big, handsome men! Nuff said.

There's also some clever photography in this image. It's a commercial shoot and the underwear is meant to be the main focus. That's achieved by setting it's vibrant colours against a background entirely comprised of understated, earth tones. That includes even the model's body, although the colours there are rich enough to stand out.

The architecture background with it's soaring spire conjures up a sense of aspiration (reaching for the stars and all that). The model is seen mounting a ladder, as if heading towards that elevated goal with only his underpants to assist him. Which goes to show how far a sexy pair of undies will get you!

The determined set of his face adds to all that but also picks up on the hovering mood of the city of superheroes, which the familiar skyscraper inevitably remind us of .

Pants-Dropper

Another example of clothing flattering a model's body shape.
The V-shape of the braces artfully echoes the natural taper of the torso.

Their taut line emphasises the undulations of musculature,
detouring around the mounds or jumping across the canyons.
With a slightly naughty point of convergence
But braces are not meant to be in contact with skin.
It's slightly shocking and dissolute combination
Implying undress, yet emphasising decency.

I don't know the model or photographer yet.

Shirt-Lifter

Alex Geerman posing in a T-shirt in a very unconventional way.
Perhaps it's an ad campaign for chest aftershave,
But it's a striking and unexpectedly sensual image.
I haven't ID'd the photographer yet.

It must be Winter

Caylan Hughes
Winter has it's compensations - the fun of Christmas, the beauty of frost and snow, skiing the slopes if you are a sporty type, but from a man spotting point of view it's hopeless - it's cover up time.

The caption seems a little belated but Caylan Hughes here defies the weather with a bizarre pair of furry shoulder pads being his only protection from the elements. Of course, in fantasy realms like this it tends to be winter all year round so you have to take advantage of any break in the weather. The image epitomises manly hunkage and Caylan's carefully crafted, hairy highlights are perfect for it.

Hairy Chest Site

A striking contrast to the glamourous fashion models that feature regularly here in swimming trunks and underwear. But this rugged-looking man dressed in working garb is no stranger to the gym either and there are tell-tale signs of body hair 'growback' that suggest he's not as low maintenance as he looks at first sight. Proof though that attractive masculinity comes in many shapes and forms.

Readers of my main blog will know I have a mission to eradicate silly hats from beefcake shoots but in view of the model's stern, challenging look I'll let that pass on this occasion.

A Bit Shirty

Shawn Stingel by Miguel Suarez
A marvellous example of the power of clothes to showcase the male body.
The rolled up sleeves are a characterful touch.

Another Spring Shower

This image of Dwain Leland presenting an arching body to the sprinkling water of the shower showcases his fine physique but there's a sense of reckless abandon in the pose, underlined by the soggy, sagging underwear and turned-down waistband which his mother would scold him for. (Photographer: Mark Jenkins)

If you look at Dwain Leland's Instagram you'll see he's a man that loves to show off his body also at White Steel

Young Masculinity

Phil Hunter

Phil Hunter's shapely, slightly fleshy physique and rugged face seems the epitome of young sporting maleness. The slightly precarious pose (sadly I can't credit the photographer responsible) shows off the curves and bulk of his body extremely well. It also conveys a nice sense that he's here to do someone else's bidding . His pulled back arms and the brightly coloured costume emphasise the display of his his lower body area. You may have read elsewhere that he won't do full nudity and his slightly disgruntled facial expression here makes the irony of this provocative pose all the more delicious. This is a memorable picture that he may never equal in his modelling career, a worthy entry in my 15 minutes of fame gallery (see label below)

Overalls

Nick di Cristina aka Johnny V
Overalls are a very masculine garment and light blue always seems to showcase the male physique too for some reason. Add in sleeves rolled up just above the biceps and flyaway collar framing the neck and you've got a heady testosterone brew here even before Nick di Cristina's lusciously gym-honed muscles are revealed by his lowered zip.
In these mirror sun glasses, Nick bears a passing resemblance to Landon Conrad here. However, they are an incongruous accessory, projecting a sophistication and mystery which is quite at odds with the straightforward simplicity of the workman's garment. Great image though.

Up for Inspection

Sergei by Vitaly Shiryaev

I have a thing about swimming trunks and also about the power photographers have to get their models to do things which they wouldn't dream of doing in real life. Like this pose where Sergei seemingly offers up himself for a hands on inspection. His expression doesn't suggest he's looking forward to it. It's nice to see Russian artists taking their place in the global family, let's hope that silly man in the Kremlin doesn't mess it all up for them.

You 'orrible shower!

Dillon Parkes

This image ties in with a couple of themes at this blog of which the most obvious is the watery theme, nicely capturing the thorough drenching of the model. The arms held up in the air allows the interesting speculation for darker minds that this is not a routine hygiene routine but some sort of hazing or punishment under restraint. The curious off-centre cropping helps by creating the impression of an unplanned moment not deliberately posed for publication.

The second theme picked up here is the '15 minutes of fame'. The picture that is the highlight of a model's career. Actually Dillon is a successful model with a disappointing penchant for being photographed with women, but this memorable homoerotic image that pops up everywhere seems to be a unique classic. Searching through his published pictures I have found nothing to match it and discovered that his normal appearance is a good deal more boyish than this picture suggests. Oh well, maybe in a few years.......

Belted Trunks

Swimming Trunks with belts incorporated into them have always hit my button. It's one of those incongruous combinations that makes the mind grope for an explanation. In the days before lycra and water repellent fabrics they actually served a purpose - preventing wet cotton and flannel trunks from sagging under the weight of water to an immodest degree. With modern fabrics the ubiquitous drawstring is man enough to fulfil the same role, but belts provide a showy fashion alternative.
No ID on the model yet, info welcome

Wet 2

Cory Mason photographed by Pat Lee
This heroic image uses water, not to reveal a man's physique, but to create an impression of toughness and resilience which Cory Mason's rugged profile seems completely right for. I find the hair on the point of his chin, seen as an outgrowth and not part of his profile embarrassingly cute!

The impressive, voluptuous dimensions of his chest muscles are flatteringly enhanced by the drawn back singlet (which seems to be squeezing them forward) and by the bright highlight tracing their outline. There's a similar 'bulking up' effect with his right arm and lower torso, which is actually more narrow-waisted than it seems at first sight.

Pat Lee also cleverly uses the light here to capture the droplets of water cascading down Cory's torso and also the hair on his body to the point that you can't tell them apart. There's a similar (dry) hairy phenomenon in my post on Dmitri for Bad Puppy.
The upward looking angle gives the hero authority and together with the water spattered on the camera lens draws us into the scene (I wish!). The addition of a water tower looming menacingly in the background like some alien robot (and seen by us but not by the hero) is witty. It draws the threads of the image together.
If you have a look at Pat Lee's website you'll see he has a knack for capturing rugged masculinity which is not totally dependent on muscularity.

Tasty Morsel

We all like a cheeky chappie and I certainly have a soft spot for this image.
The tilted cap and underwear perfectly complement the boyish bravado of the pose.
Notice how the underwear, camera and background are colour co-ordinated. The yellow office chair  seems to have had less thought. It produces some meaty thighs, however it seems an odd accessory, one can imagine the boss walking in any minute and finding his project manager with trousers round his ankles.

Actually this image is a compendium of modern vanities, the selfie itself of course - the clue is in the name! Plus we have a man who finds himself irresistibly tasty. Finally an example of the self-obsession of the media with a photographer who takes a picture of a man taking a picture of himself. I have to say though, I love the result.

I haven't identified the model or the photographer and would welcome illumination from my readers on this.

Muscular Beauty

Sergi Constance by Luis Rafael

It always amazes me how a bulky, muscular guy can have the most slender waist. Sergi Constance combines the chiselled angular facial features of a fashion model with the generously inflated muscle of the beefcake boy. With his spiked hair, designer stubble and daringly-placed tattoo he is a very model male, but the photographer fallen back on classic, traditional garb to accentuate his masculinity - zip-up leather (style) jacket and jeans with a chunky leather belt.

The Boy Within

Andre Coelho

This moment of playful introspection is beautifully captured. It's like a memory of innocent boyhood exploration when the world was full of new wonders. The black and white toning amplifies this retrospective feel. It also helps to delineate beautifully the droplets of water cascading from the model's hands. They almost look like precious jewels scooped from a newly-opened pirate's treasure chest, boyish fantasies......

.....and yet the model with his muscular arms, artfully trimmed facial hair and partly unzipped jeans is very grown up indeed. You can almost see his dismay as the elusive treasures of youth slip though his fingers once again.

The image is beautifully constructed too. The broken streams of water open out in a pyramid shape as they fall, echoing the outer curves of the model's legs and his forearms. These curves lead the eye up towards the cupped hands like the shapely stem of a modernistic goblet, capturing the upwards scooping motion. Above the hands there's another family of curves, this time cup-like and including the models hairline, his chin, outer pecs and the hands themselves, all fitting inside each other like Russian dolls and conveying his intense focus on the contents of his scooping hands.

Accident, design or instinct?  Hay Torres is the photographer and deserves credit for a fascinating image.

Voluptuous

At one time ladies with fleshy figures were described as voluptuous.
This is the male equivalent.
Generously proportioned, softly rounded muscle tone.
Delicious.
